Where It All Started

Hi, welcome to the last Sunday on earth. Grab a cup of coffee, sit back, relax and kiss your ass goodbye. Okay, maybe not, but it is a fine excuse to introduce my latest countdown idea here on Swamp Gas & Moonlit Reflections. Starting tomorrow, the last Monday ever, I am going to take you, dear reader, back to the beginning of it all as I post my five favorite creation mythologies from around the world. I have always enjoyed reading the creation mythologies of various religions and cultures as they are an interesting look into how our ancient ancestors saw the formation of the world.

You may be asking yourself, "Wasn't this covered in the bible?" Well, the Genesis narrative is only one creation myth of hundreds from numerous cultures. The only reason the whole Adam and Eve, Garden of Eden, talking snake story is so popular is because it is the beginning of the books for two of the three dominant religions, Christianity and Judaism and it is the root of the Islamic narrative. However, the Genesis myth is far down the list of creation stories as it is pretty boring compared to many. Celebrate the end of time this week with a journey back in time to investigate how we came into being.

As an aside. I wrote this post on Thursday and began looking up some of my favorite stories. However, it seems that researching this topic has uncovered a lot of really interesting stories and some connections to other myths. This should be interesting.
