James Bond's Wet Dream

Yesterday was the big Apple event, but it seems a little underwhelming to me.  Everything, predictably, was regarding the iPod lines and changes therein.  Basically, there are price cuts, higher capacities for existing iPods, new colors for others and some new features for the Nano line.  The Nano features confuse me in a way.  Why does it need an FM tuner, a voice recorder and a video camera?  I use my 16GB Nano as a music player and it's completely full.  The camera and voice recorder would require keeping memory open for pictures, voice and video whether it's the 8 or 16GB model.  I would have been happier with the new features if they also announced a memory upgrade to 32GB.

I do admit being a little impressed with the idea of a camera on a Nano, even if it is a little thicker.  I keep thinking how far we've come since the days of the original spycam, the little plastic lens and shutter assembly that held a roll of 110 film.  The digital cameras are tiny, fairly well hidden and have decent resolution.  Of course, all of that excitement goes out the window when I realize that it means more people will have video cameras readily available.  This means even more ridiculous videos uploaded to YouTube and more people thinking they're going to uncover the ultimate injustice in the world.  I have a digital camera and a camera in my cell phone and I use them for my own good.  These cameras make me feel that Big Brother does exist in this day and age, but it's not a large, central government...it's us.
