A Flashback Before the Web

OK, not before the Web came into existence, but before I had my presence on the Web.  I used to do my share of writing in private and found a CD in a case with a few of these writings.  So I decided to share one of these 10+ year old writings with you.

Life Elsewhere
September 28, 1999

In ancient times there were two groups of people, those that believed the earth was the center of the universe, and those who believed that the sun was the center of the universe.  Everybody would eventually get straightened out and realize both groups were wrong, neither the sun nor the earth are the center of the universe.

Today there are two new groups of people, those who believe that we are the only and most intelligent life forms in the universe, and those who believe that there is more intelligent life than us.  I am a member of the latter, I believe that human beings are intelligent, but not the most intelligent.

Somebody once asked me to give him proof that there is life elsewhere, I asked him to give me proof that life cannot exist anywhere but earth.  That conversation ended with that statement.  People are allowed to believe whatever they want, but don’t force these beliefs on those that don’t want to hear them.

I cannot understand why we call ourselves the most intelligent beings in the universe, we use 10% of our brains, we go to war at the drop of a hat, and we call ourselves the most intelligent (doesn’t that take a neutral party to decide).  Some doctors may have discovered the 6th sense in dogs.  Dogs, which people have always considered to be a dumb animal, maybe because they lick their own butts and sniff peoples crotches, may actually possess the one mystery many people have tried to tap into, including myself.

Do not be an egocentric, a person who believes the universe revolves around him or her, be open to the possibility of life elsewhere.  I believe.

P.S. The surest sign that there is life on other planets is that none of it has contacted us.

As you can tell by the date, I wrote this a while back.  I don't think it ever made it online before now, but here it is now.  I hope you enjoyed this look back into my mind.
