Writing Away

I passed the 10,000 word mark last night (11/4 @ 9:30pm) and I have to say that I am quite proud of myself.  No, the novel I'm writing probably wouldn't be picked up by anyone and won't make me a millionaire, but it is a personal accomplishment.  I could have joined the rebel group and written an essay collection or a true biography, but that would require facts and figures and a bit of research.  Fiction is a lot easier for me because I could suspend reality and have a little fun with the subject matter.  I am also not writing this from an outline or any type of plan.  I'm writing this whole story off the cuff.

This is the longest I've gone writing on one topic and I am determined to finish and cross the 50,000 word mark.  I know it's only the fifth day, but I feel like I am going to succeed already.  It's not the greatest story idea, but I think it's solid enough to keep it alive until the end of the month.  If anything, I am hoping it spawns other ideas for more stories down the road if only for my own entertainment.  NaNoWriMo is about quantity, not quality.  It's only to encourage people to write a first draft, not a final product.  I keep updating my numbers throughout the day.  Have a nice day.
